Haystack Farms is committed to excellence in producing premium, weed-free hay for our customers. We sell our hay directly- we are not middle-men; we grow, cut, bale, store, market, sell, and truck our own product. This sets us apart from other hay producers in our area, giving our customers consistent quality at the best prices. Haystack Farms produces two types of premium hay: bermudagrass (3 sub-types) and perennial peanut. See descriptions below. Our hay is available in square bales (sold in 21-square-bale bundles) and round rolls (when available)..
Descriptions of Hay Varieties
Coastal, Jiggs, & Tifton85 Bermudagrasses:
- Perennial grass that is frequently used for hay fields or grazing pasture in the southern portions of the United States.
- The plants grow rapidly when temperatures are warm and moisture is abundant.
- Adapted to a variety of soils and provide as much or more grazing than any other summer pasture grasses.
- Bermudagrasses are the easiest of all the grasses to manage, responding well to fertilizer and weed control programs.
- These are hybrid bermudagrasses and do not produce viable seed. They are propagated vegetatively by rhizomes.
- Tifton85 has the widest leaf of the three, therefore the highest in protein, then Jiggs, then Coastal. If horses have trouble with coastal, vets will usually suggest moving the animals over to Jiggs or Tifton85.
Perennial Peanut:
- High-quality, persistent, tropical forage.
- Can be grazed or fed to horses, dairy and beef cattle, hogs, goats, sheep, deer and rabbits.
- Ideal substitute for imported alfalfa.
- Florigraze & Arbrook varieties available.
- Has high yield, quality, persistence, disease resistance, and drought tolerance.
- Well-adapted to dry, sandy soils.
- Planted using rhizomes, or underground stems, dug from our well-established nursery.

- Does not require nitrogen fertilizer, and once established, is low-maintenance. No pesticides for insects or diseases.
- Hay yields in north FL range from 3-5 tons per year for well-established stands.
- Quality and uses are so similar to alfalfa that perennial peanut has been coined "Florida's alfalfa".
- Herbicides will be needed during establishment and occasionally post establishment.
- Environmentally sound, low energy consuming crop.
Delivery Options
Bundles: Minimum of 10 bundles.
- 1/2 semi load:
- 10 to 17 bundles will be delivered with a tilt trailer.
- Driver unloads with a tilt trailer. Stacking is managed by customer.
- Full semi load:
- 18 to 35 bundles will be delivered in an enclosed box trailer (48' and 53' available).
- The customer unloads and stacks. The driver will wait up to 2 hours for the trailer to be unloaded.
- Drop trailers are only available for high volume feed stores and equestrian centers. Minimums apply. Call us for details.
Rolls: Minimum of 20 rolls.
- 1/2 semi load:
- 20 rolls.
- Driver unloads with a tilt trailer. Stacking is managed by customer.
- Full semi load:
- 21 to 46 rolls can be delivered on a flatbed or in a box trailer.
- The customer unloads and stacks. The driver will wait up to 2 hours for the trailer to be unloaded.
A freight expense will be added dependent on the location/mileage from our farm.
Pick-Up Options
For 1/2 or full semi loads (10 or more bundles / 20 or more rolls): loaded Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Please call to schedule a date and time.
For the public: We are open on Saturdays from 9 AM to 12 PM (excluding holidays or special events) for hay sales. Our minimum sale is 1 bundle for a square bale purchase.
International customers: Ocean containers can be scheduled with our office. Please call or email for details. Most international customers use Trailer Bridge shipping out of the Jacksonville, FL port.
